Grazing Academy workshops start on Rota

(NMC) — The first series of workshops from Northern Marianas College’s Marianas Grazing Academy will be held on Nov. 11, 12, and 13 at NMC’s Rota instructional site.

Workshops will run from 9 a.m. to 3:30 p.m.
Similar workshops will be held on Nov. 17-19, NMC Tinian.
To register, contact Alejandro Badilles at 532-9513 for the Rota session or Dr. Allen Sabaldica at 433-2576 for the Tinian session.
The Marianas Grazing Academy project has been made possible by a grant from the U.S. Department of Agriculture, CSREES Outreach for Disadvantaged Farmers and Ranchers.
The academy aims to build local agricultural capacity and educating farmers and ranchers about increasing the economic viability of their products.
The workshops, which require no registration or participation fee, will include training on pasture and livestock management issues, including forage production, grazing management planning, weed control, forage selection, animal health and treatment practices, meat quality and marketing, and mobile slaughter facilities.
The academy, a project organized through a collaborative effort between NMC-Cooperative Research Extension and Education Service and experienced pasture, livestock, and soil specialists from the University of Hawaii, University of the Virgin Islands, and the University of Guam, seeks to enhance the production of high quality meat products, which can serve to improve food sustainability through the adoption of appropriate technologies and practices in grazing and livestock management.

Rescue returned to his family

(PAWS) — PAWS is happy to report that Rescue the dog has been returned his family.   A responsible family that had mistakenly come into possession of Rescue saw a flier at a grocery store and made the compassionate decision to call his family.  PAWS would like to thank that family for making the right decision.
The family/owner of Rescuer would like to ask any grocery store and/or gas station where a poster is found to take down the poster.  Most have already been removed by the family/owner, however, the communities help in cleaning up the flier-mess is greatly appreciated.
Thanks to all that offered to help look and find Rescue.
