KOROR (Palau Horizon) – A public funeral will be held for the fallen Palauan soldier Sgt. Jasper K. Obakrairur here on June 16.
President Johnson Toribiong in an interview told reporters that the public funeral to honor the 26-year old Palauan Army Sergeant will be held at the Palau National Gym.
Obakrairur’s remains will arrive in Palau early morning of Tuesday, the funeral is scheduled at 8 a.m. that day too.
Obakrairur, died June 1 in Nerkh, Afghanistan after a bomb detonated near his vehicle.
Obakrairur was assigned to the 2nd Battalion, 87th Infantry Regiment, 3rd BrigadeCombat Team, 10th Mountain Division (Light Infantry), Fort Drum, N.Y.
He was a former computer science student at the University of Hawai'i-Hilo and a native of Palau.
The president said his office is also drafting a directive which will declare a day of mourning for the soldier.
