THE Northern Mariana Islands Humanities Council and Gov. Benigno R. Fitial will announce the winners of the Governor’s Humanities Award on Oct. 30.

The last day for submitting nominations was Friday, Oct 9, and the council board will meet on Oct. 22 to select the winners.
The selection process will be done through the majority vote of the council.
The award ceremony is an annual event held in October, which is Humanities Month.
The five categories for this year’s awards are Research and Publication in the Humanities; Preservation of Traditional Cultural Practices; Outstanding Humanities Teacher (both classroom and non-classroom settings); Preservation of NMI History; and Lifetime Achievement in the Humanities.
The award aims to recognize individuals, groups and institutions with outstanding contributions to the humanities in the CNMI.
Oct. 9 was also the deadline for the submission of applications for the executive director’s post.
The council said an ad-hoc committee will review the applications and make recommendations to the council board which will select the new executive director.
The council did not disclose who the members are of the ad-hoc committee.
